Five minutes with… Simon Barnett
Today we are spending five minutes with Simon Barnett.
What is your job role?
Video Production and Support Officer
What 3 words describe you?
Supportive, Ponderer, Geek
Tell us something ‘unusual’ about yourself
I was a volunteer at an online radio station for 3 years, presenting a weekly music show. It allowed me to play around with a radio studio for the first time since University and I got to meet some amazing people along the way.
What excites you about learning technology?
There’s always something new coming along to get excited about. From ChatGPT to Open Broadcast Studio (OBS) powering new recording spaces across campus.
Do you have any top tips for our users?
Have a go at something yourself, but never be afraid to ask for help and advice from anyone within Learning Technology.
What do you think will be the most important thing in learning technology at the University of Nottingham this year?
Accessibility is going to be a big topic this year across the institution, not just relating to learning technology. But it doesn’t have to be difficult to adopt. Small changes in everyday behaviour can have a big impact on the end user.
What have you learned recently?
I don’t think you ever stop learning. I always try to learn something new every day that I can use. I’m currently reading ‘Liespotting’ by Pamela Meyer about how we all encounter lies every day and how we can spot them through physical markers. This makes for interesting viewing when editing a video.
