Windows 10 is coming to campus near you

Changes to Windows operating system in open access areas

This summer Information Services will be undertaking a programme of work to install Windows 10 on all PCs located in open access areas including libraries, cafes, computer rooms, lecture theatres and teaching rooms ready for the start of the 2017/18 academic session. This upgrade ensures that our equipment is in-line with current Microsoft operating systems and applications, ensuring that the University offers a secure and supported environment.

With the introduction of Windows 10, staff, students and visitors will notice two main differences as described below:

Changes to Windows logon at lectern PCs

From Tuesday 15 August, staff and students will notice the removal of automatic logon at lectern PCs. All staff and students should logon by using their University username and password. Visitors can logon to lectern PCs by following the instructions presented at the login screen.

Logging out of Windows 10

The method of logging out of Windows 10 will change from Windows 7. To log off, users can either double click the Log Off icon on the desktop or manually sign out/log off, by following these steps:

  1. Right-click on the Windows logo (bottom left)
  2. Select “Shut down or sign out”
  3. Select “Sign out”
