Submit to the Learning Technology Blog

There are so many exciting and innovative examples of technology being used at the University of Nottingham. Our aim is to showcase these examples and inspire others to experiment with new or existing resources for teaching and learning.

If you have any examples of occasions when you have used technology for teaching and learning, then please share your experiences with us through this blog. It doesn’t have to be anything ground-breaking, just something that worked well that you think others would enjoy hearing about and may well be able to incorporate into their own practice.

Whether the technology is used to create more personalised learning experiences, increase opportunities for collaboration and student engagement, or deliver different types of learning experiences for students, we’d love to hear from you!

If you would like to be inspired by some previous examples, please take a look our faculty-takeover blog posts

How to contribute

We have several ways in which you can contribute to the Learning Technologies blog.

You can either:

Write a short blog post summarising your experience of using the technology.

or

Record a short video detailing how you implemented the technology-based activity. Talking head screencasts work well and can be recorded within MS Teams or using another screencast software package. Alternatively, you could write a short post and include a screencast to explain your points. A good example is this short video from the HTML Notebooks in mathematics blog post below.

Alternatively, feel free to contact the blog editors and we will happily catch-up and arrange to have an informal chat about what you have done. We can then draft an overview on your behalf detailing your experiences. If you prefer this option, just complete the necessary sections on the MS Form and we’ll be in touch.

Submission guidance

We recommend each blog post should be approximately 500 words and can include images. Video recordings should preferably be between 1.30-5 minutes, feel free to run ideas past us if you want to check anything. You can also find some guidance on the video and audio publishing website .

We encourage these posts to be reflective accounts, providing an insight into what you did, how it went and, any lessons you learnt from the experience. It would also be great to get any student input or response to the activity as part of your post. Whether you are a lecturer, support staff or administrative, your experiences are all highly valued.

The blog articles, whether written or video-based generally follow a set template with the following sub-headings.

    • Introduction – Set the scene for the reader. What was the general topic being covered? Was the technology used in the lecture hall, was it something Moodle-based, an app?
    • Implementation – What strategies or activities did you adopt in your use of the technology?
    • Results and impact – Discuss the positive outcomes. Any student feedback?
    • Reflections – any insights gained from this experience? Include any challenges faced and how these were, or could be, overcome in the future?

The submission process

For written blogs

Please complete the MS Form. We will then review the content to ensure it meets the blog requirements and double-check it meets accessibility guidance. If you have indicated on the MS Form that you have images to add, we’ll also email you for these.

For media-based blogs

We always welcome media-based submissions as they add a bit of variety to the blog. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to media creation, or are a seasoned pro, we would be happy to support you with the creation of the post.

In the first instance, it would be good to have a chat about what you are planning, just to make sure it meets the general requirements for the blog. Just complete the MS form with your general ideas and we will get back to you within 1 week.

We will let you know when your blog post has been scheduled for publication and further advertise this through X (formerly Twitter).
