Changes to University Print Service
In recent news, it was announced that a contract has been signed with Xerox for a further three years. The new contract expects to make substantial savings for the University and will deliver a number of benefits to the existing print service:
- Replace 238 printers with new, faster devices
- Replace ‘Scan to Home’ with ‘Scan to OneDrive’ app
- Reduce the cost of printing for all University users
The project is in full swing to deliver an updated service for the start of session. In late August / early September, there will be some interruptions to service as we plan to implement the new print infrastructure. During this time the following work will take place:
- Simplify and install new print queues on University PCs – *update* disruption from 9th September, read more here
- Revise the staff recharge process (billing codes that staff, associates and PGRs are automatically charged to)
- New process for requesting student uplifts (additional print credits that schools/departments can add* for students)
- Migrate student balances
A rollout plan is currently being developed for the new print queues and we will make users aware of the changes and interruption to service where possible. We will be shortly contacting departmental print managers of changes to the recharge process and asking for their support to confirm print recharge codes.
There will be a new process for schools requesting uplifts to student balances, we will be contacting key staff when the new process is finalised.
Further updates will be posted here over the coming weeks.
*any school/department uplifts will need to be funded from the departmental budget.
What is the ” staff recharge process” and what is an “uplift”?
Hi John – thanks for your comment and feedback. Sorry, I’ve been caught up in project terms and should have explained this. I have added extra information, let me know if this makes sense. Thanks, Chris
