New Remote Desktop Gateway

Earlier this year, Information Services announced introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on the remote access services, specifically:

  • Virtual Private Network (VPN)
  • Remote Desktop Gateway (RDG)
  • Citrix Virtual Desktop

The new VPN service went live successfully earlier this year and we are now ready to introduce the new Remote Desktop service, gateway.nottingham.ac.uk.

Action required

We will soon be decommissioning the service rdgateway.nottingham.ac.uk, which you may have been using for some time to access your Office PC from home. The process for using the new service is very similar with the inclusion of MFA and we recommend you familiarise yourself with it before the current service is taken down.

As a pre-requisite to using the new service, you must register your device for MFA, instructions are available here. If you have already registered your device to use the VPN, you should not need to do this again, however please note, to use the new Gateway you must use the Microsoft Authenticator app with notifications, as the service does not support code input.

Using the new service

Guides and documentation for the new service are available here. Please note, the existing service will continue to be available for you to use to minimise disruption and further communications will follow when a date is confirmed for the decommission.

If you experience issues with MFA, please contact the IT Service Desk.
