SITS ‘thank you’ event iPad winner

Congratulations to prize winner Hiren Tailor – final year Mathematical Sciences student (pictured on the left).

Each year Information Services holds a ‘thank you’ event for the 90+ Student IT support (SITS) tutors that help new students at the start of session. Tutors work hard to assist students with all IT issues/questions and help their peers to settle in during their first few weeks at university.

Tutors firstly shared their positive experiences of participating in the programme: “It’s good to have this sort of challenging role as it has a lot of learning potential”; “I remember how intimidating it was for me when I was a fresher myself – having SITS tutors around to help was really useful”; “There was so much to gain from taking part”

The event also sought to gather feedback from SITS about their experiences as a tutor and to capture any potential future improvements for IT Services. Key suggestions were:

  • MyNottingham app – was welcomed as a one stop shop and was being used mainly for timetabling. Additional functions requested were bus timetables, status page and improved quality of maps
  • Start of session – less returning students pre-registered – more targeted communications suggested
  • Most frustrating – drops in the Wi-Fi service, waiting times in Laptop Loan & Repair, issues with module enrolment, access to some software packages, moodle performance issues, too many ways to access services
All feedback gathered will help us improve on services and support for students. To find out more about the Student IT support programme, visit our IT Services website.
