Improvements to UoN Print Service

Earlier this year, Information Services (IS) announced that we had extended our contract for the UoN Print Service with our service provider, Xerox.

Refresh of print devices

We’re delighted to announce that, starting this month, IS are working with Xerox to implement a service improvement plan to replace 120 older print devices with newer Xerox machines. The machines are being deployed between May – June at Academic Schools  and Professional Service departments on Jubilee Campus, University Park Campus, Queens Medical Centre Campus, Libraries (George Green), Kings Meadow Campus and Sutton Bonington Campus.

IS Service Manager, Sam Passingham, who works with Xerox to manage the UoN Print Service commented, ‘Over 25 devices have already been replaced so far in May and we’re pleased this work was undertaken with no disruption to service and that the new devices were up and running quickly’.

Changes to printer mapping

In order to further support cost savings, this month we will start making some changes to the print queues. Following a pilot with the Engineering faculty, we will amend the default queues for Xerox printers in order that they point to ‘mono’ first, followed by ‘draft’ then ‘colour’ and ‘booklet’. This won’t affect any personalised mapping that individuals may have applied, but it ensures that mono and draft are the first available options and the most cost-effective.
