Free software for students and staff
Over the last twelve months Information Services has made a number of software applications freely available for our staff and students. We understand that it is critical for academic staff, researchers and students to be able to download and use specific applications on their personal devices. Below is an update of some of the licences we have recently acquired on behalf of our users.
Microsoft Office Professional 2016
Microsoft Office Professional 2016 licences are available for all staff and students. You can download the Office applications on up to five personal devices including Mac and Windows. Student instructions for downloading MS Office are available on our website. Staff instructions are on the Microsoft Software Workspace (log in required).
Sophos is the University approved anti-virus software and all University Windows PCs and laptops have been upgraded to the latest version. It is also available for you to download onto personal devices free of charge. You can download Sophos for Mac or Windows from our IT Services website.
MATLAB is now available for all staff and students to download and use on personal computers and laptops. Matlab is a comprehensive package for performing numerical computations in a wide range of areas. It also offers extensive image analysis and graphical display capabilities. Instructions for downloading MATLAB along with more information about the application are available on the MATLAB entry in the Software Library. Please note that our MATLAB licence does not cover use for commercial purposes.
The STATA Journal is available to all staff and students through an institutional subscription. The quarterly publication contains articles about statistics, data analysis, teaching methods and effective use of STATA’s language. The current issue is available in PDF format from the Software Library.
