A very warm Careers welcome to our postgraduate researchers

By Kirstin Barnard and Lucie Whitfield, Senior Careers Advisers (Postgraduate Researchers)

Whether you’re new to the university or progressing with your research, we’re here to help you every step of the way.  Alongside our colleagues, we can help you develop your career ideas and plans, take advantage of the development opportunities at the university, and support you through the recruitment and selection process for jobs within academia and industry.

Here are three things you can do to start to focus on your future career.

1. Watch our video

Find out how we can help develop your career during your time at Nottingham.

2. Meet employers at our recruitment fairs, job and sector events and employer presentations

During October, we are hosting four on-campus careers fairs. Come along to the fairs to chat with recruiters about their career opportunities for researchers and develop contacts for the future.

Monday 16 OctoberEngineering, Science and Technology Careers Fair

Wednesday 25 OctoberManagement, Consulting and Finance Careers Fair

Monday 30 OctoberLaw Careers Fair

There is also a wide range of job and sector events taking place during the autumn term. Open to all students, these events give you the chance to ask the panel of professionals and alumni any questions you may have about progressing your career within the sector. We also host presentations from employers who are keen to recruit UoN students and these events provide you with the opportunity to explore the career options open to you.

PGR- specific careers workshops and events

We also run a series of PGR-specific workshops and events covering a wide range of topics. In October, there are workshops on getting started with LinkedIn, an introduction to the Government Operational Research Service, becoming a tutor for the Brilliant Club as well as an interactive webinar on CVs, covering letters, and application forms.

3. Take a look at our PGR careers website and blog

Our dedicated website for postgraduate researchers offers a wealth of information for you whether you are just starting to think about your next step or ready to apply for jobs within academia or outside academia. We are also keen to help you make the most of your time at Nottingham to develop your skills and experiences in readiness for applying for opportunities.
