Additional Online Resources to Help You With Career Development

By Amrina Kaur, Employability Officer

Did you know that the university subscribes to lots of additional online resources to help you with career development? Check out our list below to see if any would be useful for you, whether you are looking to research, practise your skills or discover valuable career insight.

Do you need to…research?

Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding

The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding guide provides alternative sources of funding – especially charities – which can make awards (fees, maintenance, research costs) to any student regardless of subject, or nationality.
There is a huge database of funding opportunities, comprehensive guidance, and numerous tools to help you prepare a winning grant application. The guide is free to Nottingham students, staff and alumni!

Profiling for Success

Profiling for Success is an online tool that helps you gain insight into your abilities, learning styles, personality, motivations, and interests. You can take their four questionnaires, and see your results delivered in detailed reports.
It’s recommended to book an appointment with an adviser to discuss the outcomes and your next steps. This tool is excellent if you want to discover your abilities and work towards fulfilling your potential by gaining valuable insights and making informed decisions about your future.

The Pay Index

The Pay Index is a tool that helps you to explore potential salaries and understand deductions based on your degree, industry, and location. You can access three unique reports to understand what you can expect after graduating, including your first job offer, potential career growth, and head office structure. It will help you to answer pressing questions about salaries such as:

  • What salary could I earn with my degree?
  • What will be my actual pay after deductions?
  • How will my salary vary across different roles and industries?
  • How much could I earn with a master’s or PhD?

Do you need to…practise your skills?

eCareersGrad has developed interview skill resources to aid in preparing for in-person and online interviews. The resources include 30+ video-based candidate example answers and 10+ recruiter answer scoring guides, covering popular sectors such as consulting, banking, finance, law, policy, and the public sector. Additionally, the resources provide insights on anticipating potential questions, handling video interviews, and asking interviewers questions.

There are also two virtual platforms which can help you practise your video interviewing skills. Both are free for you to use.

Graduates First provides access to a bank of generic practise video interviews, and uses AI to monitor your facial expressions. It will also provide feedback via an automatically generated report. This is a good place to start if you are preparing for future applications and would like to familiarise yourself with the video interviewing process.

Modern Hire

Modern Hire interviews are created on request by our careers advisers. This means that the questions can be tailored to your sector, company and/or role of interest. You may find an interview especially useful if you are preparing to complete a real video interview in the near future.
