COMPARE – an overview
The Centre for Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE) is a Signature Research Centre, jointly funded by the Universities of Nottingham and Birmingham. COMPARE is built around optical imaging as a research method, and seeks to link together pools of microscopes at the two institutions so as to enhance research output. Ultimately, a University of Nottingham researcher should be able to travel to Birmingham and collect optical microscopy research data, and vice versa. Data should also be preserved for the long-term, to cater for re-use and challenge, and to support the on-going scientific process.
I have been working with the COMPARE team to identify the principles of how a digital infrastructure should work, and will be writing blog posts that summarise transferable knowledge, as follows:
Why subject-specific research data repositories are important and challenging
Data management planning for a signature research centre
