Talk to industry professionals at the careers fairs

Maisie Southon, Marketing and Communications Officer

Three questions that university students are frequently asked: 1. What are your plans after you finish university? 2. Where are you going to apply after completing your studies?  3. Have you chosen a career path?

Don’t panic, you don’t have to know exactly where you’re going to do. You’re allowed to change your mind 100 times, that’s the good thing about university, you’re spoilt for choice. However, we understand that having too many choices can feel overwhelming, that’s why attending the careers fairs can be a good place to start.

What is a careers fair?

A careers fair is a chance to discuss any internships or graduate opportunities that employers have available now and in the future. It could also be a chance to learn more about a business or industry that you’re interested in and ask any questions that you might have.

“Attend every career fair you can as this is where I found the graduate scheme. I spoke to the representatives who explained what the graduate scheme entailed and instantly I became interested.” – Leah Exton, psychology student (2023)

Who can attend the careers fairs?

All university students, we encourage everyone to come along and chat with the industry professionals who are keen to recruit UoN students. This is a fantastic opportunity to speak to employers and gain an idea of what they look for in candidates. Even if the fair is not in your area of study, come along and seek out the career paths available, you never know what you might discover.

Who can you expect to see?

We have a number of high-profile businesses coming to the fairs including Jaguar Land Rover, American Express, L’Oreal, Cooley, NHS Professionals, Bridgeway Consulting LTD, Civil Service, Crown Prosecution Service and lots more. For more information on who is going to be at each career fair, please visit the website.
