Job search playlist

By Laura Estrop, Social Media Officer

Whether you are searching for a graduate job or searching for sources for an upcoming essay, music can help keep you motivated, focused and most importantly entertained. I know from personal experience how beneficial music can be when you’re on the hunt for your dream job, or even the dream quote. Today, I am going to share with you the songs that give me inspiration, motivation and just that little bit of oomph when I need it most.

  1. Katy Perry – Roar

Let’s start with one of the queens of pop, Katy Perry. I always play this song on repeat before I go into a job interview, it really helps me get into the right state of mind and will help to keep you going through any situation.

  1. Eye of the Tiger – Survivor

The song is about rising from the ashes and achieving your dreams. No matter what obstacle is put in front of you, you can overcome it; you’ve just got to keep going! For me, this song really helps to give me that little bit of extra oomph when I need it the most.

  1. Shake it Off – Taylor Swift

Indeed, the haters are going to hate. If you’ve received a rejection email do exactly as Taylor says and simply shake it off, bigger and better opportunities are out there waiting for you.

  1. Wings – Little Mix

I think the lyrics of the song nicely sum up the song’s meaning. Much like shaking off the haters, this song tells you to reach for your dreams and not let anyone or anything stop you. So if you’re unsure about applying for a job, this song will give you the confidence to go for it.

  1. Footloose – Kenny Loggins

Never underestimate the power of cheesy pop! I love music from the 1980s (as you may have guessed by now); it always puts me in a good mood. Footloose, is such a bouncy and upbeat song that it’s impossible to not get up and dance like Kevin Bacon in the music video.

  1. All My Life – Foo Fighters

I choose this song as I always play it when a deadline is approaching and I need to type really fast or just need to let off some steam by singing at the top of my lungs.

  1. Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) – Kelly Clarkson

Although she’s singing about a relationship, the song’s point of keeping going even through the tough times can be applied to any situation. Much like Wings by Little Mix, I love listening to songs that uplift me and boost my motivation.

  1. Walking on Sunshine – Katrina & the Waves

I dare anyone to listen to this song and not feel instantly happier. It is the classic motivation boosting song!

  1. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey

I don’t think you can create a motivational playlist and not include this song. Whether you prefer the original or the Glee version, the song simply oozes motivation.

  1. Everything Is Awesome – Tegan and Sara feat. The Lonely Island

If after listening to this playlist you’re not feeling any different, you don’t feel inspired; than this one song will definitely do the trick. This song, in my opinion, is guaranteed to get you into the right frame of mind and motivate you to get whatever search you’re doing done. Plus there is no way you can listen to the song and not start dancing or smile.

How are you feeling now? Motivated? Pumped up? I hope so. Remember these are the songs that make me feel inspired, if a different song is working for you then let me know in the comments below!
