75 employers waiting to meet you!
By, Samantha Longe-Thomas, Events and Vacancies Team Leader
You might assume that employers at our Management and Business Fair are only interested in business-related degrees. They are not! You may also assume that you might only get a free pen at this event, but again, you may be pleasantly surprised as there will be pizza (if you are one of the first 300 students), half-price Starbucks and the chance to win an iPad mini!
Something for everyone
The employers attending this fair are looking for students from a variety of backgrounds as they are advertising operational vacancies that are not degree subject dependent. For example, Towers Watson (global professional services firm), are looking for politics, psychology, sociology, chemical engineering and maths graduates! Its principal lines of business are risk management and human resource consulting.
Have you got the right qualities?
Recruiters are looking for candidates with the right skills, aptitudes and values. These include emotional intelligence, empathy and the ability to build strong and lasting relationships. Companies also look for analytical skills that they can apply to projects as well as strategies that could affect the whole company.
For example, Geoff Baker the CEO of ICN (an app development company) says that ‘Arts graduates are able to take in complex information, process it quickly and articulate the merits. This is vital for any organisation.’
Companies looking to hire you!
Many of the recruiters attending the fair currently have live vacancies on My Career, so be sure to bring your CV and ask the employer questions! Members of our careers team will be at the fair to give you handy hints and tips about making the most of the fair and managing the application process. You can make an appointment with us for your advice on your CV.
