Wilson Ho Wei Sheng, a final year PhD student from the Faculty of Engineering, wowed the panels of the Engineering Research Showcase 2014 in UK campus with his outstanding poster and won the 1st runner-up of best poster prize under the category of ‘Best Poster: Research Quality’. There were about 35 finalists from the UK campus and one representative each from the Malaysia and China campuses participated in the competition. The opening ceremony was graced with the welcoming speech by Professor Andy Long and Professor Sarah Sharples. Then the event was started with a quick-fire presentation where the postgraduate students were only given one minute to describe and present their research topic.

Wilson is also the Grand Prize winner of UNMC Engineering Postgraduate Research Showcase 2013. He was awarded by the Faculty of Engineering for the trip to the UK campus. His poster highlights the bio-fuel production and refinery for both conventional and advance method (e.g. ultrasound cavitation technology). The research work involves the investigation of the influence of developed catalyst type and production routes on the physiochemical properties and characteristics of biodiesel produced from crude palm oil. He was surprised to find himself won in the competition. He is grateful to his supervisors Professor Ng Hoon Kiat and Professor Gan Suyin for their guidance throughout his study.
