TheConversation: To write English like a professor, don’t rely on Google translate

Thankfully, nobody speaks academic English as a first language. The English of the university is a very particular form that has specific features and conventions. Sometimes, this is just referred to as ‘academic style’.

It used to be a matter of instinct – what felt right. But now ….

… so starts a piece written by Mike Groves which has recently appearded in TheConversation.

In the first few hours of being published this article attacted over 3,000 readers, so it’s certainly worth a read.
