Get Involved: BUCS Big Wednesday
March is coming soon and with it comes BUCS Big Wednesday. It is the biggest sporting event for all universities where 16 sports will battle it out to become BUCS champions. The University of Nottingham are extremely delighted that we are the hosts and will be welcoming the top sports teams from all over the country. This is a huge undertaking, and we need your help to make sure this event is spectacular…
Volunteering Roles
There are two main types of volunteering role on offer over the two days of BUCS. The first is an events assistant. Anybody who would like to be an events assistant will have a range of different job roles throughout the day. However, the key responsibilities are assisting officials and staff with running the event, meeting VIPs, assist with ticketing and ensure spectators and staff are having a safe and enjoyable experience. This role is a perfect for anyone who may not have specific sporting knowledge but just wants to get involved.
The second volunteering role is a sport specific role. This allows you to stay with one sport for the duration of BUCS and you would support all officials and competitors. This role would be fantastic for someone who is part of a sports club and not competing. When signing up for this role, you specify which sport you would like to support.
Ideal Volunteer
The only thing that we ask for in a volunteer is enthusiasm. As long as you are happy to throw yourself in and speak to lots of new people then we would love to have you volunteer. You do not need any prior knowledge of sport or event volunteering. Any training will be provided by BUCS and UoN to ensure all volunteers are comfortable with their roles.
Volunteer Perks
BUCS is fast paced and busy event that all volunteers are guaranteed to enjoy however that is not the only benefit. Volunteers will also be provided with free BUCS branded kit to wear during the event, so everyone knows who you are (and you get to keep it afterwards!).
Volunteering at such a well-known and large-scale event will also look fantastic on any applications you make in the future whether it be for a job or further education. You are showing that you are a hardworking and enthusiastic person who has the ability to work well in a team.
How to Apply
The application process is easy. After deciding which role, you think suits you best, head on over to UoN Sports Leaders to register your interest. Use the following links for the event assistant or sport specific role. You only need to answer a few questions and choose your availability. Then we will email you to tell you more about your role and any training you need to complete before the event. It is as easy as that!
