Post Pandemic Boom for Intramural Sports Programme!
Intramural Sports (IMS) is the perfect way to enjoy competitive sport and make new friends without the commitment of weekly training or away game travel!
With several sports to choose from and all based right here on campus, IMS is an ideal way to stay active, meet new people and try something new. Students have the opportunity to represent their hall of residence, academic course or get together with a group of friends to play.
This year, the IMS programme has seen record numbers of teams playing across twelve sports! IMS has seen 287 teams (approximately 3500 individual students) playing on a weekly basis. 54 teams from halls and the rest made up from societies or just groups of friends. The numbers confirm that IMS at UoN sport is one of the biggest internal sports league programmes within the HE sector.
Speaking to UoN Sport, Menaf Al Nasir (IMS Chair) said:
“Students seem to realise what they have been missing for the last two years and are keener than ever to play IMS sport.”
All sports have seen record numbers engaging this year – both football and netball have seen a 20% increase in the number of teams taking part. Other sports such as Basketball and Volleyball have also seen an increased number of teams. Racket sports sessions are oversubscribed and finally we have seen a new sport come on board, Touch Rugby, with 13 teams playing each week.
It is important to recognise that all the activity above is delivered by a dedicated team of 20 student volunteers, the IMS Exec. UoN Sport would like to thank them for all their hard work so far this year and wish all the teams good luck this year.
