Team of the Week: Men’s Lacrosse 1st

With the weather causing havoc with BUCS fixtures this week, many teams saw their matches postponed. In Nottingham, many of our home matches were cancelled due to the freezing temperatures and snow, however the Men’s Lacrosse 1st team found their away match in Exeter still on. After travelling that distance in unideal weather conditions, they still managed to convincingly beat Exeter in the BUCS Championship quarter finals with an excellent score of 25-3!

The team for this cup match included: Jack Robinson (Captain), Hal Dwobeng (Scholar), Olivier Humphreys, Ollie Jennings, George Harrison-Church, Austin Holgate (Scholar), Patrick Timothee (Scholar), Eli Lasda (Scholar), Wilson Gearhart (Scholar), Alex Preston, Alex Russel (Scholar) and Stephen Munck.

Starting off the match, Nottingham had a slow and scrappy start with the score only at 4-2 to Nottingham at the end of the first quarter. However, the team came back strong in the next quarter putting increasing pressure on Exeter, causing them to only score one more goal which was in the final quarter of the match. The win was a great effort by the whole team with many players of the team scoring including Russel with 6, Lasda with 4, Timothee with 4, Robinson with 3, Munck with 3, Gearhart with 3 and both Holgate and Preston with 1 each. Though, the player of the match went to Preston for a fantastic performance at the face off.

Captain Jack Robinson said what a great performance it was by Nottingham, despite the aggression shown by Exeter out of the blocks, Nottingham managed to work well together and dominate the rest of the match. Having finished in 3rd place in the Premier North league, the team have already had a very successful season. Their next match will be played this week, being the semi-final of the BUCS Championship against Durham, which if they win will take the team to the BUCS final which will be played at home on BUCS Big Wednesday!

Congratulations to the team and good luck in their match against Durham!
