Pre-match preview:

The squad have already  had a successful season, finishing 2nd in the Premier North league with some impressive scores. Their first match against St Andrews was a huge 24-0 win to Nottingham and they then quickly followed this up with a 21-7 win against Loughborough. The squad only found themselves challenged to the top spot in the league by Durham, very narrowly missing out on a win both times. This is the highest position the team has achieved and puts them in a great place for winning this Wednesday!

The team have been training hard all year, with 4 training sessions a week including a mixture of skills and drills, as well as strength and conditioning. Having completed their fixtures by the end of the January, the girls have added an extra session on a Wednesday, also organizing a friendly match at the weekend in preparation for this week.

The squad for Wednesday includes:

Defence –

  • Honor Sangster (C)
  • Alice Purssell (Scholar)
  • Emerald Barron (Scholar)
  • Carrie Bonnar
  • Zoe Hewitt
  • Sarah Cleaver

Midfield –

  • Philippa Stacey (Scholar)
  • Orla Ingram (Scholar)
  • Emily Fitzsimmons (Scholar)
  • Jess Griffiths

Attack –

  • Chloe Fitzsimons
  • Alys Cowx (Scholar)
  • Katie Macleay   (Scholar)
  • Jessie Robinson

With a few weeks already passed since their last league game -the squad are desperate to get back on the pitch and shake pre-match nerves.

Honor Sangster, captain of the squad told us; “I’m really proud of all the hard work we’ve put in all year round and I love being part of this team. I can’t wait to play with all the girls on Wednesday in what will be one of our toughest tests this season.”

“With a #GreenandGold behind us, I know the team will be even more motivated to leave everything on the pitch and be proud of our performance, no matter what the final score!”

If the team wins this Wednesday, they’ll draw either Cambridge of Edinburgh in the semi-final scheduled for the 7th of March. A win in this game would put them through to the BUCS Big Wednesday final – a dream final right here on home turf!
