Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant Site Visit

A green transformation project

The Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant (P2STP) site visit was conducted on 14 March 2014 as a follow-up event to an industrial seminar (Pantai 2 Sewage Treatment Plant – Green Transformation) organized earlier by the Department of Civil Engineering and UNMC ICE SC. 25 students accompanied by academic staff departed from the campus at 9am. Upon arrival, the students were given a briefing about the project, and relevant information was passed to the participants. Health and safety equipment was also duly handed out to the participants. This includes hard hats and high-visibility vests, along with a short briefing on safety.

At 10.45am, the students were taken to the project site with explanation and direction provided by the site staff. The explanation enabled the students to have a comprehensive understanding of the project.

The P2STP project is a compact treatment facility that uses highly advanced technology to facilitate solid dewatering and waste biological sludge treatment. The completed P2STP will contain two parts – an underground facility, and an aboveground community-based site, with offices, admin buildings, and a leisure park. This project is truly massive, dealing with a catchment of over 6700 hectares, including the south-west parts of Kuala Lumpur.

At midday, the tour ended. Souvenirs were given to the staff as a token of the students’ appreciation to the project staff for taking the time to ensure a successful and interesting site visit for the students. After a photo session, the students returned to the campus.
