Green Technologies for Asia Pacific Economies

Professor Ir Dr Dominic C. Y. Foo and DDr Lam Hon Loong of the UNMC Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies (CEGT) have recently edited a special issue for the journal of Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy (CTEP, published by Springer; 2012 impact factor of 1.827).  The issue appears as volume 15 issue 5 of the journal, and has just been published in October 2013.  The special issue has a theme of Green Technologies for Asia-Pacific Economies, consisting of 10 papers that reported various green technologies developed in Asia Pacific countries, including those in Japan, India, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea and the Philippines.

In the editorial of the special issue, Professor Foo and DDr Lam wrote that green technologies have grown actively in various parts of Asia Pacific including Malaysia.  They also define green technologies as any technique, strategy or procedure which helps with movements towards the goal of sustainable development.  Some Asian countries are very proactive in promoting green technologies.  They also mention about the Green Building Index (GBI) and National Biomass Strategy will enhance Malaysia’s competitiveness as a hub for clean technologies.

The special issue has also been reported in the recent Green Technology Supplement of the New Straits Times on 9 Oct 2013 (click here for the report).
