Post Graduate Research Poster Competition

The annual Postgraduate Research (PGR) Showcase and Poster Competition was held successfully at the Great Hall, UNMC on the 1st of October 2013. This event was organised by the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) for PGR students of the FoE to showcase their research work and build networks as well as share experience with researchers across engineering disciplines.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Dean of FoE, Prof. Ian Harrison. The highlight of the opening ceremony was the plenary talk by Prof. Soh Ai Kah, Head and Professor of Mechanical engineering in Monash University, Sunway Campus. His talk highlighted the engineering applications of functional materials and presented msoscopic simulations and experimental studies of such materials with defects.
A total of 44 PGR students submitted their research posters this year. After a thorough evaluation from judges and the public, the Grand Prize winner was awarded to Mr. Wilson Ho Wei Sheng from Energy, Fuel and Power Technology Research Division. Mr. Muhammad Yaasiin Oozeer from Environment Research Division and Ms. Renu Geetha Bai from Manufacturing and Industrial Processes Research Division were announced as the First and Second Runner-Ups. All winners received their awards from Prof. Graham Kendall, Vice-Provost (Research and Knowledge Transfer) of UNMC. The Grand Prize winner was awarded RM 5,000 funding for a trip to UK campus while the First and Second Runner-Ups were awarded RM 1,500 and RM 1,000 conference funding, respectively.
In addition, five PGR students presented their research talk and experience sharing. These include Ms. Katerina Loizou, UNUK Engineering PGR 2013 Best Poster recipient; Ms. Surya Mudavasseril Sudheer, UNMC PGR Showcase and Poster Competition 2012 Grand Prize winner; Ms. Wendy Ng Pei Qin, UNMC PGR Showcase and Poster Competition 2012 first runner-up and UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) Summer School 2013 delegate; Mr. Rex T. L. Ng, The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) 3rd Research Paper Competition 2013 winner and UKERC Summer School 2013 delegate; Mr. Davannendran A/L Chandran, UKERC Summer School 2013 delegate. The event concluded with the PGR Forum, whereby key points concerning PGR progression were highlighted by the PGR Committee Chairperson, and general student satisfaction was collected through an anonymous survey study.
