PERINTIS Research Invention and Innovation Competition

By Hii Ching Lik

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus won two Silver medals in the Research Invention and Innovation Competition for Private Institutions of Higher Learning, Malaysia (PERINTIS 2014), which was held in the Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur on the 10th of September, 2014. The two projects that won were based on research carried out by Dr Vasanthi Sethu and Dr Anurita Selvarajoo on “Fenugreek (Trigonella Foenum-graecum) for the treatment of Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME)” and also work by Dr Hii Ching Lik and Prof Law Chung Lim on “A novel zeolite adsorption dryer for preservation of bioactive compounds in food products”. All four researchers are from the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering of UNMC. Credit especially goes out to the department’s students who carried out the research work, namely Ayodhya Mendis, Stephen Chimbayo, Surendar Vejayan and Rohan Girish Rajiv (MEng graduates) for the Fenugreek project and Abhay Menon (PhD candidate) for the adsorption dryer project. Both projects have collaboration with external institutions and industry.
