As we now begin to transition back into a period of relative normalcy following the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Centre for Research on Cuba is once again opening its doors. Additionally, the Hennessy Collection has now re-opened to students and researchers from all of Europe and the Americas. Despite the fact that activity in the Centre slowed down a bit during the pandemic, the work behind the scenes continued. The Hennessy Collection has been re-invigorated with hundreds of donations from various sources. The donations have added volumes to nearly all genres in the collection. In total, the holdings of the collection have increased by at least 33%. Accordingly, a new rolling shelf system has been acquired in order to accommodate all of the new donations. The Hennessy Collection is now an even more valuable resource to Cuba and Latin America researchers in the UK and abroad. As such, the Cuban Research Centre once again invites scholars, students, academics, and researchers to avail themselves of the resources provided by the collection; the largest publicly accessible collection of Cuban materials in the UK, Europe, and likely, the hemisphere.
New additions were not limited to the Collection however, as the Centre has welcomed additional researchers and scholars during the hiatus. Maria Reyes-Baztan, Sarah Simpson, and Leah Guy, are our newest members and we greatly welcome their arrival and expertise.Returning to the the Centre are Dr. Isabel Story, Liam Pritchard, and Arturo Hernandez.
With regards to events, the Centre is once again planning to host the Cuba Research Forum, post graduate consortium, and various other events in 2022. We are also very happy to announce that the Centre expects to host several post-graduate research from the University of Havana later this summer. Overall, everyone in the Centre is glad that we are up and running once again. Readers can expect to see heavy activity in the blog and in the Centre in the coming months as we continue to roll out and expand. Ahora que regresamos a un período de relativa normalidad después de la pandemia de COVID-19, el Centre for Research on Cuba abre sus puertas una vez más. Además, la Colección Hennessy se a reabierto para el beneficio de los estudiantes e investigadores de toda Europa y las Américas. A pesar de que la actividad en el Centro se desaceleró durante la pandemia, el trabajo continuó con fuerza atrás de la escena. La Colección Hennessy se ha revitalizado con cientos de donaciones de diversas fuentes. Las donaciones han agregado volúmenes a casi todos los géneros de la colección. En total, las existencias de la colección han aumentado al menos un 33%.
