Talking of teaching: communicating about strategy, policy and practice

Teaching strategy and policy, and quality assurance and enhancement, all benefit from ongoing conversations between the centre and Schools, and between staff across campuses and across disciplines. Communication about teaching should support the involvement of students and all staff in teaching development. This principle has guided the development of a revised approach with three key changes:

  • New Teaching Policy Forums – these are open consultations sessions, run by senior T&L figures in the UK, China and Malaysia, to offer colleagues outside of the formal structures an opportunity to engage with ongoing strategy and policy discussion.
  • Replacing the Hub magazine with a new publication ‘Teaching: the year ahead’ with a clearer focus on addressing issues in the Teaching and Learning strategy.
  • Altering the Teaching website to function as a reliable starting point for access to policy, support, news, events and good practice (due for publication in January).

There will be seminars and workshops on policy development and good practice in the core areas of the Teaching Transformation Programme. The Talking of teaching blog hosts examples of colleagues’ work and thinking, and additional email bulletins will include latest news on funding, awards, good practice etc. – contact me if you think you may not already be on the recipient list.
