4 Reasons to get involved in Engage Inclusive Sessions
This week marks the beginning of the Engage Inclusive Sports Sessions as part of Be U Week! They give disabled students the opportunity to get involved in a wide array of new sports and meet new people. The week includes sessions from sports like Badminton, Powerlifting, Handball, Triathlon, Wheelchair Basketball and many more. They are taking place at the David Ross Sports Village and at the Jubilee Sports Centre. The sessions will take place Monday-Wednesday this week, I have listed four reasons why you NEED to get involved this week!
1. You can meet new friends and like-minded people
One of the key benefits of sport in general is having the chance to meet new people who love the same sports as you! Whether you fancy yourself as an aspiring Water Polo goalie or a dab hand at Handball, everyone is welcome at Engage Inclusive sessions. Interesting and exciting sessions run by the committees and coaches of the sports provide a friendly atmosphere to get involved and get to know people! It’s important to note as well, that the committees are very active on social media and so are always easy to contact should you want to see a friendly face when you arrive for your sport.

Sport and welfare go hand in hand
To quote our brilliant Men’s Health Active Ambassador, Will Turner, on the recent Welfare In Sport podcast, ‘I would say sport means welfare to me.’ And we on the UoN Disability Sport Team couldn’t agree more. There is no better way to clear your mind and relax than a sweaty session in the gym or a close game of tennis. Which is all the more reason to attend the Engage Inclusive sessions this week! With the pressures of the coronavirus more present than ever, it is so important to get active.

You can try new sports!
If you’ve ever wondered what it might be like to try climbing for the first time or fancy your first jog of the winter months at Wollaton Park, this week offers the perfect opportunity to try something new in a safe and welcoming environment. Our expert coaching staff are more than qualified to introduce you to any sport you may choose. All clubs involved this week have prepared their sessions to cater for people of all abilities – if you need any disability support from staff or committee members, they are more than happy to help.

It’s also a brilliant opportunity to find out about our facilities and the different sports on offer – all for free!
Potentially the most exciting part of this week is the fact that all bookings for these sessions are free! We want as many people to come along as possible and therefore, we don’t want any restrictions imposed on students by introducing an extra cost to the sessions. This means that you can check out our amazing sports facilities at David Ross Sports Village and the Jubilee Sports Centre for free! If you find that you really enjoy getting involved in a particular sport, then this is the perfect stepping stone to signing up.
We really hope this blog article has given some of you an insight into what will be happening this week and we can’t wait to see many of you getting involved in the sessions!
