The Headliner | Match Preview

Our second Headliner of the academic year, and first of 2023 will shine a light on our Netball 1st team as they look to progress on the #RoadToNottingham in the Championship Cup. With a place in the quarter finals on the line, there is sure to be plenty of excitement and action! Facing Gloucestershire at 5pm on Wednesday, we cannot wait for the atmosphere court side as the #GreenandGold look to make it two Headliner wins from two this academic year.

Finishing third in the Premier division this season, the #GreenandGold will be looking to take their good league form into the cup run, which culminates in the National Finals at BUCS Big Wednesday.

What is the Headliner?

The Headliner with Red Bull is a multi-award-winning event series, hosted on campus, showcasing various BUCS teams competing at the top level of university sport throughout the year. There is usually one Headliner event per term and each highlights a different sport. In recent years there has been some fantastic double headers such as the Hockey Headliner in Term 1, where both the Men’s and Women’s first teams competed in front of the #GreenandGold crowd – coming out victorious.

Why should you support the event?

Headliners aren’t events to miss! Expect to see superb game play from our leading BUCS Netball team just metres away from your halls of residence or lectures, as well as a huge court side atmosphere. You can also get in the Green and Gold spirit by purchasing a supporter t-shirt, foam finger, face paint and more! With support from Red Bull, The Headliner provides a great sporting occasion with everyone urging the University of Nottingham to victory. Don’t worry if you missed out on getting a ticket though – all Headliner matches are streamed live on the UoN Sport YouTube channel, providing a great match day experience wherever you are watching!

What can you expect?

Our Headliner events showcase university sport at the highest level, so be prepared for intense, fast-paced games and a lot of excitement! As the Headliner series is sponsored by Red Bull, you can expect an extra special match day experience with a live DJ, great atmosphere and plenty of Red Bull to go around. This term’s Headliner with Netball will also feature a special half time performance from UoN Cheerleading’s Nottingham Knights! All you need to do is make sure you are rallying behind the #GreenandGold and getting involved in whichever way you can!

Recently appointed Head of Netball Paige Reed is looking forward to the match saying “I’m sure the crowd will help become another player for the team, and it’s going to be a great opportunity for me to see the team in action together – how they work together on and off the court. I also think the atmosphere will be brilliant too, so I’m hoping for a good game and result.”

Our Netball Club are hugely looking forward to the big occasion and thank you in advance for your support. We recently spoke to the team captain Kitty Luscombe and vice-captain Louisa Maynard to get their thoughts ahead of the match.

Alongside our live stream, you can also keep up with the match on our social media with live updates posted regularly.

Let’s go #GreenandGold!
