Hi all, it’s Alex!
I would firstly like to introduce myself, I am the new Social Media Ambassador for Engage so I am sure you will all be hearing from me a lot over the next academic year via loads of different social media platforms, I am super excited to get to know you all and help make this year engage’s best yet!
I am writing this blog today to tell you all about our fantastic event, Girls Night In! This is our fourth year of running the event and you are all in for a treat as it is bigger and better than ever! I have volunteered at the past four Girls Nights In and have loved absolutely every single one of them, I’ve tried new sports, laughed a lot and made new friends so I cannot recommend it enough. It is on Sunday 27th October 7pm -10pm at David Ross Sports Village.
As usual we have lots of different sports getting involved, so there is plenty of opportunity to try something new! Some of the sports we have to offer are, the climbing wall, Table tennis, a lifting clinic, gymnastics and Judo to name a few! Our timetable will be live very soon so keep your eyes peeled!! Personally, I am super excited to try some of the martial arts on offer as I have never done it before! I am also really looking forward to the lifting clinic so I can get my inner Grace Fit on but also learn the right technique so I don’t injure myself!
As well as all the sports we have on offer we also have the chill out zone as usual, if you haven’t been before it is a great place to sit and catch up with mates or get to know people you meet on the night and take a break from the activities. This year we have Red Bull attending who are bringing a DJ to produce the soundtrack to your night, so bring your dance moves with you girls and bust out your inner dancing queen! While dancing along to the music you can get your hair braided by the wonderful Lilly Monroes and Flawless hair and beauty!! You will also have the opportunity to get your face painted and glitter up to go alongside your braids! Once you have glammed up you can also visit our professional photo booth and take away the pictures as a memento of the night!
This year we are hosting a clothes swap as we are conscious of the current climate emergency and want to try to do our bit to help! By hosting a clothes swap we reduce the load on the environment by extending the lifetime of the products which then cuts down the need to buy new clothes!
We will also have the fantastic Foodprint attending. Foodprint are an amazing local social supermarket and surplus food redistribution network, they address the imbalance between food waste and struggling to afford nutritious food. So we are asking the wonderful people of UoN to bring some surplus food with you if you have some such as cereal, pasta and tins etc. Foodprint are a social enterprise started by students at the University of Nottingham and they act as an intermediary between supermarkets, wholesalers, charities and the people of Nottingham to redistribute food, so let’s support our own girls!
Thanks ladies, I can’t wait to see you all on Sunday 27th October at Girls Night In!!
