BUCS Big Wednesday Preview: Women’s Hockey 1s

Last week, the University of Nottingham Ladies Hockey 1st team travelled down to Birmingham for the semi-final match of the BUCS Championship. Birmingham have in the past always bought out a strong team against UoN, finishing top of the Premier North league this year with a win and a draw against our squad this season.

However, with a bus full of UoN supporters and the #GreenandGold spirit behind them, the tables turned on Birmingham and the Nottingham Ladies 1s came back victorious with a 3-1 win. This, for the first ever time, sent Ladies Hockey through to the BUCS final this Wednesday!

Nottingham are to face the Loughborough 1st team in the final this week. Having faced Loughborough twice before during the season, there is everything to play for between the two teams. Nottingham having an early win in their first match of the season of 4-1 against Loughborough and then Loughborough later then beating Nottingham in a close game finishing at 2-1.

The match is due to be played at 2:30 at Highfields Hockey Centre and with the whole of UoN Hockey club planning to support the squad, captain Becky Hutson really thinks the home crowd could make a big difference for this final!

Becky’s motivational quote to the team has been ‘want to succeed as much as you want to breathe and then you will be successful!’ Hopefully, her famous inspirational team talks will bring the girls through to achieve Ladies Hockey first ever BUCS gold!
