Biosciences student Isobel Pooley put in a fantastic performance last night in the women’s high jump final at the Commonwealth Games at Hampden Park. She was in fine form in front of a capacity crowd, clearing each successive height at the first attempt and getting herself into medal contention.

Her previous lifetime personal best was 1.91 and she was faced with a jump of 1.92 to confirm a medal. Once again she cleared at her first attempt and put herself in the gold medal position.

Unfortunately she was out jumped by Australia’s Eleanor Patterson who cleared 1.94 at her second attempt leaving Isobel with the silver medal. However, the performance crowned a fantastic season in which she has won the British title and the British universities indoor and outdoor titles.

Highlights of the final are available on the BBC Sport website.
