Sharp-shooting medic wins bronze at Commonwealths

Shooter Rachel Parish, a University of Nottingham graduate, won a bronze medal in the women’s Double Trap yesterday, beating Canada’s Cynthia Myer in a shoot-off.

Rachel’s medal success will be all the sweeter after eight years of frustration. She won two medals at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne but missed out on competing in 2010 when her event, Double Trap, was dropped from the Games.

Rachel graduated from Nottingham with a BSc in Biochemistry and Genetics in 2002. She returned to complete a PGCert in Medical Education in 2013. She works as an A&E doctor at the Queen’s Medical Centre.

There is a video profile of Rachel on the BBC website and a brief clip of her winning shot on the ITV Central News website.
