ANN: International Symposium “Transnational Cities” co-hosted by Tate Research Centre & TrAIN, UAL, 29-30 Sept 2017

Given comparative research interests ReNetMoCoCA members will be delighted to hear about the up-coming international symposium “Transnational Cities” that will focus on transcultural artistic entanglements of Tokyo and London. The international symposium is co-hosted by Tate Research Centre: Asia and TrAIN Research Centre, UAL and arranged in partnership with Aoyama Gakuin University, Centre for Transnational Cultural Analysis, Carleton University, Meiji Jingu Intercultural Research Institute and Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures (SISJAC).

The symposium will examine the historical interconnectedness of cultures in Tokyo and London. The first day explores Tokyo’s transnational histories and futures. The second day looks at the intersections and points of contact among multiple cultures and diverse artistic legacies in London.

Keynote lectures will be delivered by Sonia Boyce, Reiko Tomii and Lee Ufan.

Confirmed speakers include: Alessio Antoniolli, Michael Asbury, Gavin Jantjes, Shanay Jhaveri, Carmen Julia, Geeta Kapur, Kuroishi Izumi, Sook-Kyung Lee, Amna Malik, Vivan Sundaram, Ming Tiampo, Isobel Whitelegg and Hiroki Yamamoto.
