Introducing An E-Tale of Two Cities – Developing A Virtual Exchange Between Student Nurses At The University of Nottingham and Birmingham City University

Fern Todhunter pictureDr Fern Todhunter in the School of Health Sciences has been awarded Cascade funding from the Nottingham Alumni to develop an extra-curricular virtual exchange activity between student nurses studying here at Nottingham and at Birmingham City University (BCU). A virtual exchange is a study elsewhere opportunity located in the student’s own setting. For all kinds of reasons students are not able to pursue the traditional opportunities to study elsewhere. Fern’s blog sets out the progress to develop the site and its content. The later posts will reflect the activities when the site goes live. BCU have kindly offered to house the site whilst Nottingham will develop the content. A story-boarding workshop has been organized to create content for the site. Students and staff from Nottingham and BCU will use the newly update Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Standards to develop a re-usable learning object for year 1 student nurses.  The site will offer student nurses lots of opportunities for academic and social networking to find out what it is like to live and study in the two areas.
