FOE Postgraduate Research Showcase 2014

The annual Postgraduate Research (PGR) Showcase was held successfully with great enthusiasm at the Great Hall, UNMC on the 23rd September 2014. This event was organised by the Faculty of Engineering with aim to provide a platform for their PGR students to showcase their research works, build networks and share experiences with other researchers across various engineering disciplines. The honoured guests presented at the event were Professor Graham Kendall (Vice-Provost Research and Knowledge Transfer), Professor Ian Harrison (Dean of Engineering), Dr. Teo Lee Peng (Chair of FROG), Dr. Ong Sze Pheng (Chair of PRSM), Mr. Samuel Jackson (Grand Prize Winner of UNUK PGR Poster Competition 2014) and Mr. Wilson Ho Wei Sheng (Grand Prize Winner of UNMC PGR Poster Competition 2013).
The event began with a welcoming speech by Professor Ian Harrison. This was followed by a research experience sharing session in which Mr. Wilson Ho shared valuable tips that proved useful for PGR students (new or present) when embarking on a journey into the world of research.
A total of 43 PGR students participated in the poster competition this term. After thorough evaluation from the primary judges and public, the Grand Prize was awarded to Mr. Mohammad Reza Ketabchi (Manufacturing & Industrial Processes Division Research Division). Meanwhile, Ms. Chow Wei Ling (Environment Research Division) and Ms. Renu Geetha Bai (Manufacturing and Industrial Processes Research Division) were announced as the First and Second Runner-Ups, respectively. All winners received their awards from Professor Graham Kendall and Professor Ian Harrison. The Grand Prize winner was awarded a travel fund to UNUK while the First and Second Runner-Ups were awarded with conference travel funds.
Apart from that, 13 PGR fellows participated in the 1-Minute-Quick-Fire Competition. In this presentation competition, each participant managed to convey their research to the audience with great understanding within 60 seconds. The primary judges for this competition were Professor Graham Kendall, Professor Haider Abbas Almurib and Dr. Tissa Chandesa. The participants of this competition were adjudged based on marks given by the judges as well as the votes from the audience. The Grand Prize of this competition was awarded to Mr. Zain Taha from Manufacturing & Industrial Processes Division Research Division.
The event concluded with the PGR Forum, whereby Professor Andrew Chan applauded the impressive performance of the postgraduate fellows in their research, which contributed to UNMC’s top 7 ranking among all universities in Malaysia. He also expressed his gratitude for the hard work and support provided by the research staff in assisting each research student.
