Research Collaboration with Institute for Infrastructure Engineering and Sustainable Management (IIESM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM)

The Department of Civil Engineering UNMC invited the Institute for Infrastructure Engineering and Sustainable Management (IIESM) of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia for an inter-university research discussion on the 21st January 2014 at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. The event was organized to foster collaboration between the two universities. Five representatives from IIESM attended the event.
In the morning session, IIESM Research Fellow Dr. Mohd Fadzil Arshad gave a presentation on background of IIESM and how IIESM has evolved from various research centres to become one research institute with 10 research centres as follows (in alphabetical order):
- Bio-remediation Research Centre (mybioREC).
- Concrete Waste Engineering and Earthquake Research Centre (CWE2C).
- Flood Management and Intelligence Development Centre (FloodMind).
- Fluvial and River Engineering Dynamics Centre (FRiEnD).
- Geotechnical Engineering and Georisk Management Centre (myGERMEC).
- Geotechnical Forensic Research Centre (GEOFORENSIC).
- Innovative Construction Materials and Structures Centre (ICMSC).
- Synergistic Innovative Management Research Centre (SIMReC).
- Timber Engineering Research Centre (TEReC).
- Transportation Systems, Infrastructure and Intelligent Transport Research Centre (TransIIT).
After the presentation and question and answer session, Dr. Choong Wee Kang presented souvenirs to the speaker. The event then continued with laboratory visits and campus tour.
In the afternoon session, the event continued with research presentation by Dr. Alec Marshall, an academic staff from the University of Nottingham UK. After the presentation, Dr. Mohd Fadzil Arshad and Dr. Choong Wee Kang continued the session with discussion on joint grant application and research supervision.
