H2020 Launched – 145 Calls Already Published

HORIZON 2020 LAUNCHED WITH 15 BILLION EUR OVER FIRST 2 YEARS – 145 CALLS ALREADY PUBLISHED

On 11/12 the European Commission presented calls for projects under Horizon 2020, the European Union’s 80 billion EUR research and innovation programme.

Most calls from the 2014 budget are already open for submission, with more to follow over the course of 2014.

CallsĀ  in the 2014 budget alone are worth around 7.8 billion EUR, with funding focused on the three key pillars of Horizon 2020:

1. Excellent Science: Around 3 billion EUR, incl 1.7 billion EUR for grants from the European Research Council for top scientists and 800 million EUR for Marie Curie Fellowships for young researchers (see MEMO/13/1123).

2. Industrial leadership: 1.8 billion EUR to support Europe’s industrial leadership in areas incl ICT, nanotechnologies, robotics, biotech, space

3. Societal challenges: 2.8 billion EUR for innovative projects addressing H2020’s seven societal challenges: health; agriculture, maritime and bioeconomy; transport; climate action; environment; resource efficiency and raw materials; reflective societies; and security.
