Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) competition was an initiative of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, UK (IMechE) since 1964, with the aim to challenge young engineers’ communication skills by giving an effective presentation to a group of audience who may know little about engineering.
As an Affiliate member of the IMechE and UNMC representative, Mr Alireza (a 1st year student from the Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and the in-coming chairman of UNMC IMechE Student Chapter) has competed alongside contestants from University Malaya, University Teknologi Mara, Taylor’s University, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Monash University Malaysia Campus, and University Tenaga Nasional in the National Level SOfE competition held at UiTM, 8th Dec 2013. He was announced the national champion and selected as the sole representative of IMechE Malaysia to compete in the South East Asia Regional (SEAR) SOfE competition held in Bangkok, Thailand (March 2013). Representatives from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore were contested in the event and Alireza has won the 1st runner-up award in the SEAR SOfE.
Being the top two winners of SEAR SOfE, Mr Alireza Parpaei, is on his way to compete in IMechE Asia Pacific SOfE competition. He will be competing with contestants from North East Asia, South East Asia, Southern Asia and Oceania regions in the IMechE EngNow event http://nearyou.imeche.org/near-you/north-east-asia/engnow in Hong Kong, 14th – 17th September 2013.
