Dominic Foo: Book Launch on Process Integration
A book launching event was held during the 26th Symposium of Malaysian Chemical Engineers, in conjunction with the 4th International Conference On Chemical And Bioprocess Engineering (SOMChE-ICCBPE-2012) recently at Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia (21-23 November 2012).
The new book entitled “Process Integration for Resource Conservation”, was authored by Professor Ir Dr Dominic Foo, the Founding Director for Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies of University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (CEGT, UNMC). Professor Foo is the 2012/13 session chairman of the Chemical Engineering Technical Division of Institution of Engineers Malaysia (CETD, IEM), and also an active member at the Institution of Chemical Engineers UK (IChemE) Malaysia Branch. He was also the award winner for the Innovator of the Year Award 2009 of IChemE, Young Engineer Award 2010 of IEM, and recently named one of the Outstanding Young Malaysian 2012. Professor Foo has given several talks and workshops at both IEM & IChemE based on the content of this book, when it was still at its initial stage.
The book launch started with an opening speech given by Prof Abdul Wahab, Chairman of IChemE Malaysia Board, who expressed his happiness to see a new book being launched at SOMChE, as there had not been any book launch before. This is then followed by a book review by Prof Raymond Tan (De La Salle University-Manila), a long term collaborator of Prof Foo. Prof Tan explained that the book consists of the state-of-the-art process integration techniques ranging from pinch analysis, mathematical optimization, and hybrid techniques of the former. In the speech of Professor Foo that follows, he acknowledged all his worldwide research collaborators, visiting scholars and students, who have contributed to his book from various aspects. The book launch ended with a ceremonial handover of books, where Prof Foo donated his book to IEM, IChemE Malaysia Branch, Universiti Sabah Malaysia (conference and book launch organiser), as well as Prof Raymond Tan.
