Student Action for Sustainability: The Sustainability Research Network (SRN)

The University’s Sustainable Research Network report on their autumn programme of events.

Sustainability Research Network logoSustainability and entrepreneurship were the themes of the most recent Sustainability Research Network (SRN) event held on Friday 11th October at UoN main campus (UK). Joined by Dr. Kevin Hard, a University of Nottingham alumnus and CEO of EvoEnergy, the UK’s leading solar panel installation company, the SRN members learnt more about the process of ‘making power’ and the trials and tribulations of starting a business from scratch.

This event continued SRN’s focus to bring together postgraduate and early-careers researchers working on, or with an interest in, sustainability. SRN is the brainchild of five PhD students from five different schools. Focussed on promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and discussion, facilitating knowledge exchange, and raising awareness of the many opportunities available within the University and beyond (e.g. funding, careers, collaboration), SRN currently has over 50 members from over 22 different schools. Since its launch in May this year, SRN has held careers panels, informal meet and greets, day trips and guest speaking sessions.

SRN’s next event on 27th November will allow sustainability researchers to showcase their work and on December 12th, SRN will be joined by Dr. Helen Sneddon, Head of GlaxoSmithKline’s Green Chemistry Performance Unit. The SRN committee members will also be sharing insights about the process of establishing the network amongst international scholars at the Student Action for Sustainability Conference being held in Keele, UK later this month.

The network is the first of its kind at UoN and is always keen for new members to come on board. If you have an idea for a future event, would like to find out more about SRN and become a member, or are keen to attend one of our upcoming events, please get in touch via Email: (SRN@nottingham.ac.uk), or via our Website, Twitter or Facebook platforms. We look forward to hearing from you!
