Just another week in paradise!

As I sat down tonight and stroked my chin, in order to conjure up an idea about what to blog about, I realised something. It’s been 6 weeks since my arrival in Nottingham!

Six weeks and this was the first chance I’ve had the time to stop and think about how amazing my time has been, how time flies and how I need to keep making the most of every opportunity that presents itself.

To emphasise this let me quickly talk about my week. Monday, lectures most of the day, the compulsory afternoon nap and then, a smell I will always associate with tomato soup, gloves and amazement, the smell of Fireworks began to seep through the night air. The fantastic Fireworks show at Forest Recreation Ground made Monday a good start to the week. A week that comprised of Newark Hall’s formal dinner, a test, a football game, a few more naps, an essay deadline, not that I left it to the night before…and the new tradition of Poker Fridays. With a beer and some snacks what better way to relax after a long week.

They always say pictures paints a thousand words and a thousand words takes a lot of time to write… so I’m going to share my week with you in the form of pictures. Enjoy.

The Remember remember the fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason
Should ever be forgot…

The Formal dinner, a great evening of classy dining!

A quick footnote – this Sunday is Remembrance Day, another time to stop and think and to thank.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.”
