May the Christmas spirit be with you

Here it is. The day we’ve been patiently waiting for. Everywhere you go, you can hear the music blasting in your ears. So close i can practically taste it…

The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is imminent and words cannot describe the pure liquid hype that is coursing through my veins.

The excellent set of characters created by George Lucas have been regulars for fans dressing up at conventions since the first film’s release in 1977

I realise that i may have just alienated half my audience, but hopefully at the same time further enticed the other half. Ever since the first teaser was released last November the geeks of the world have been going through their inhalers the way Obi-Wan Kenobi goes through battle droids.

Those of you who are pretty apathetic towards the whole thing might be wondering “wait didn’t they do this whole Star Wars revival thing before?” And yes the prequels were pretty disappointing but nonetheless optimism is currently running high in the sci fi community. And with the critically acclaimed JJ Abrams directing, why shouldn’t star wars die-hards be allowed to show just a touch of flamboyant optimism. After all this is the man who managed to successfully reboot the Star Trek film series (and at least the original Star Wars movies were actually good).

With a cast featuring Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill reprising their respective roles as well as up and coming British talents Daisy Ridley and John Boyega it is sure to make a big splash on the international cinematic scene. And with the initial verdict from the premiere being described as “an overwhelming experience” I think it’s safe to say, that Christmas has quite literally come early this year, 8 days early to be precise.
