University of Nottingham Sport welcomed 8 swimmers to our first ever Para-Swim open day
On Sunday 9th December University of Nottingham Sport and the University Swimming Club in partnership with elite swimming club Nova Centurion, welcomed 8 swimmers to our first ever Para-Swim open day.
The aim of the day was to showcase the University, sports facilities and para-swimming programme to prospective students and their families.
The day was hosted at David Ross Sports Village where they received a welcome talk – learning about performance swimming at the University from Glenn Smith, coach to three time Paralympic champion Ollie Hynd. As well as learning first-hand what it is like to be a University of Nottingham student, scholar and athlete, from Podium Potential swimmer Daisi Adefisan.
University of Nottingham Sport staff provided a tour of the impressive £40 million, David Ross Sports Village. Following lunch, the swimmers undertook a one hour pool session on site with Glenn Smith which was also supported by the University Club.
The day concluded with a warm down session led by one of the University’s experienced Strength and Conditioning coaches in the centres’ High Performance Zone – providing the swimmers with a complete overview of the support and programme available to them.
Nottingham is one of the leading universities for inclusive and para sport – offering opportunities for all students. Our sporting offer is also complimented through partnership working with Nova Centurion and Swim England, as well as with support from other departments across the University. This partnership working ensures that students can have a positive and rounded experience during their time at Nottingham.
UoN Sport Swimming Club quoted “The Swim club is committed to setting up a para-swimming programme in partnership with UoN Sport, and as part of this we wanted to host a taster day for potential students to experience what we offer here at Nottingham. The whole day was a huge success, with extremely positive feedback from attendees, thanks to great work by everyone involved. We hope the day will really help push the programme on and allow it to be a major success in years to come.”
