BUCS Big Wednesday Preview: Men’s Squash 1s
Congratulations to our Men’s Squash team for making it through to the Championship final, which is to be held at here at the University of Nottingham on BUCS Big Wednesday in David Ross Sports Village!
The Men’s game is to start at 2:30 and is certainly not something to be missed! UoN team have lost just four of their last 20 league matches, with all of these defeats at the hands of defending champions UWE who have dominated the leagues for the past few seasons.
Having played an excellent semi-final match, winning against a strong Birmingham team 3-2, puts the team in good place for the final, where they will be facing rivals UWE in a the fight for a BUCS Gold win!

Here’s who made the team for this Wednesday:
- Owain Tayler (Captain)
- Ollie Holland
- Matt Broadberry
- Tom Bailey
- Adam Auckland
Nottingham have previously faced UWE before in the Premier Stage 2 Upper league, where they ended up second ahead of Birmingham and Loughborough but narrowly missing out against UWE. Though they lost 4-1 previously, Nottingham are confident that a home game with a large home crowd could make all the difference!
Second team squash player, Paul Broadberry is encouraging people to come down and watch the squad “squash is supposed to be the world’s healthiest sport and it’s fantastic to watch. We’ve got incredible facilities here at the University of Nottingham with the brand new all-glass court.”
“You are obviously playing individually to win your own match but there is an excellence sense of team spirit especially as were all good friends. It great to have that spirit, it means a lot to everyone to be in the final and we’re hoping we can with together as a team.”
The 2nd team are also playing in BUCS Big Wednesday in the Trophy final which will be held at 11am in David Ross Sports Village against Sheffield Hallam.
