#GreenandGold Match in Focus | Birmingham vs UoN Ladies Hockey 1st
For our final #GreenandGold Match in Focus, we are featuring our Ladies Hockey 1st XI team in their semi-final match against Birmingham, which is to be held away at UB Sport + Fitness in Bournbrook.
Coming into the last week before BUCS Big Wednesday, we have reached the final round of the knockout stages. A win in this week’s semi-final will secure a place in the Championship final which is to be held on Wednesday the 21st of March, right here at the University of Nottingham!
Pre match-preview
Ladies Hockey have had a fantastic season in the BUCS North A Division , finishing the season 3rd in the Premier North League behind both Durham and Birmingham. The team have finished higher in the league and with more wins than any other season to date.
The girls have consistently reached new highs, their first match being a win against Loughborough which again, has never been done before. This lead the team to be our first and very deserving #GreenandGold Team of the Week in 2017/18.
Moreover, the 1st XI have smashed every stage of the cup so far, with an amazing 6-1 against Cambridge in the first round followed by a 2-0 win in last weeks game against Oxford. Now, with only one game away from BUCS Big Wednesday’s final, there really is everything to play for.
Having faced Birmingham twice before, the team are more confident and more prepared than they ever been . With the first match against Birmingham being a tightly fought 1-1 draw and the second a very close 1-0 loss, there is a great chance that we will see, for the first time, our Ladies Hockey team in the Championship cup final!
