Varsity Series 2018 Preview: Futsal
This Sunday 13th May marks the end of the 2018 Nottingham Varsity Series, the last event on the schedule is Futsal and it is one that is not to be missed!
The 2018 Varsity Futsal event will be held at the David Ross Sports Village and will kick off with the Women’s Futsal at 17:00 and the Men’s Futsal will bring this year’s Varsity Series to a close starting at 19:00. If last year’s fixtures are anything to go by the event this year promises to be an exciting encounter, in the 2017 series UoN narrowly lost 5-6 in the men’s fixture but came out 2-1 winners in the women’s fixture. Futsal has always been a fiercely contested event, looking back to the 2016 series it took penalties to separate UoN and NTU in the men’s futsal, with UoN eventually coming out in top and in the 2016 women’s futsal UoN were narrowly defeated by NTU 2-1.
Both universities have had successful BUCS campaigns with NTU Men’s Futsal winning the Premier North league by seven points having only lost one game all season. Likewise, UoN Men’s Futsal won the Midlands 1A league having similarly only lost one game and now just have to defeat University of Stirling on the 16th May to gain promotion to the Premier North League. The UoN women’s futsal also had a very successful BUCS season, only missing out on the Premier North league title by five points. If the last two years are anything to go by there will be nothing separating the two universities in this year’s series so come down to the David Ross Sports Village and show your support!
