BUCS Big Wednesday Preview: Women’s Squash 1s

Next up, we have our Women’s squash team who have also made it to the Championship final which is to be held here at the University of Nottingham on BUCS Big Wednesday on Wednesday the 21st of March.

The Women’s first team are scheduled to play at 1pm in David Ross Sports Village in the all glass court against Birmingham 1st team. The squad have had an amazing season, having remained unbeaten and are yet to drop a single set over the course of the whole year!

The girls have therefore finished top of the Premier Stage 2 Upper League with a grand total of 60 points. Birmingham finished in 3rd place with less than half the amount of points that
Nottingham ended up with!

Here’s who made the team for this Wednesday:

  1. Coline Aumard
  2. Hana Ramadan
  3. Jannis Lam
  4. Hayley Openshaw-Blower (Captain)
  5. Libby Corke

Sports scholar Coline Aumard took the BUCS squash title, keeping the trophy at Nottingham for a third year running back in December. Living up to her number #1 event ranking, the French national champion took a 3-1 victory in a thrilling final to deny University of Nottingham teammate Hana Ramadan her third consecutive gold.

President of the Women’s squash club, Libby Corke wants to encourage as many people as possible to come and support the Nottingham squad, who hope to keep up their unbeaten streak!

“Squash isn’t getting the coverage I feel it deserves in the world and I think we have a number of marquis players and some of the matches will be world class. It’d great for people to come down and support us and get behind us.”

Between the Men’s and Women’s club they have 4 teams playing in BUCS Big Wednesday, which will be an incredible day for the whole club.

The women’s squash 2nd team are also playing at 11am in David Ross Sports Village against Bristol 2nd team in the Trophy final.
