Gavin’s marathon Lifecycle to Buckingham Palace
The University of Nottingham’s superfit Environmental Manager, Gavin Scott, is pedalling hard to reach his Royal destination tonight, in a 1000km charity bike ride in aid of Lifecycle 5.
Gavin’s ‘5,4,3,2,1…Thunderbirds Challenge’ began on 7 September in Scotland and over the past four days he has cycled through the five UK capitals, Edinburgh, Belfast, Dublin and Cardiff and is on course to finish at the gates of Buckingham Palace this evening. The four-day adventure has raised over £1000 for The University of Nottingham’s Lifecycle campaign, but Gavin is still looking for sponsorship to maximise his efforts.
Taking a quick break on the final leg of his marathon ride today, Gavin said: “It’s been a rollercoaster of a ride, beautiful countryside, road angels in Scotland who fed and watered me, riding too fast to catch ferries, a very sore Achilles that has slowed me and an emotional reunion on the road with a friend I’ve not seen for 19 years. All in all a great trip and when you have the lows I think of the great cause Lifecycle 5 is supporting – still 195 km to go so must pedal on!”
Gavin says a big thank you to everyone who has sponsored him and there is still time to contribute by visiting his Lifecycle 5 fundraising page https://www.justgiving.com/Gavin-Scott9
The Lifecycle Campaign has raised in excess of £1.5 million over the past five years for research into palliative and end of life care, stroke rehabilitation and children’s brain tumour research as well as increasing opportunities for students irrespective of financial means. The funds raised this year will go to dementia research.
