‘Enemies’ unite to launch Nottingham in Parliament Day

SGB_4231According to legend they were sworn enemies but it was all smiles as Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham joined forces to launch Nottingham in Parliament Day.

At a special event at Nottingham Castle the pair helped to raise a flag for the initiative which will take place in Westminster later this year.

They appeared alongside Michelin-starred chef Sat Bains, actor and film maker Jonny Owen as well as former Nottingham Forest captain and current club ambassador John McGovern and England and Notts County goalkeeper Carly Telford.

Nottingham in Parliament Day will take place on Tuesday, October 25, when more than 60 Nottingham institutions and businesses, led by the University of Nottingham, will come together to promote the city as a great place to live, work and do business.

Rooms, terraces and grounds around Westminster have been booked and a festival of events has been planned including a breakfast roundtable to discuss Nottingham’s role in the Midlands Engine, a “Great Westminster fuddle” – a smorgasbord of Nottinghamshire delicacies featuring producers such as Castle Rock; a “home of sport” showcase; a game of University Challenge hosted by John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons, and numerous events highlighting the world-class research led by The University of Nottingham – working in partnership with innovators such as Michelin-starred chef Sat Bains, Rolls Royce and E.ON.

Professor Sir David Greenaway, vice chancellor of the University of Nottingham, said: “It’s a great opportunity for our city to pretty much take over Westminster for the day and we are doing that with the cooperation with our city MPs who are putting together an opportunity to celebrate what is great about the people of this city, what is great about the businesses, what is great about the sport and the culture and the heritage of this city. We can do all of that by taking ourselves to Westminster.”

Pictures from the launch are shown below. As events are confirmed they will be added to the Nottingham in Parliament Day website.
