University’s Chief Financial Officer announces his retirement

Chris Thompson, the University’s Chief Financial Officer, has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this academic year.

Chris joined the University in November 2007, following senior roles at Inter Link Foods PLC, The Co-operative Group, Asda Stores, Woolworths, Homepower Retail and KPMG.

Responsibilities

As Chief Financial Officer at Nottingham he has been responsible for the overall management of finances, investments, research support, business management, safety services, internal audit and hospitality.

Chris holds a variety of roles and responsibilities across the University, including being a member of Management Board, the Secretary of Finance Committee and Chair of Notice Board and Safety Committee. He sits on a number of other Boards and Committees across the University.

He also advises the Estates Department on strategy and development and chairs a number of project management groups.

Vice-Chancellor Professor David Greenaway, said: “Chris has done an outstanding job since joining the University of Nottingham five years ago. During this period we have ensured substantial growth and maintained strong financial performance and healthy surpluses whilst delivering significant savings and sustaining investment.

“Chris deserves enormous credit for his contribution to maintaining the University’s strong financial position in these challenging times. He has also been an excellent colleague to work with. We wish him and Bev all the very best in retirement.”
